Ashburton
Geoff Read developed this design with the owner to maximise the sun and privacy on a corner block. Although the home was to be orientated to maximise the sun, It was important to the owner that direct sunlight did not create a glare within the home. To achieve the owner's requirements a design with no eaves and windows that are recessed around the perimeter of the building was reached to maintain the simplicity of two separate forms merging on a private sun-drenched deck area. The home is maintained at a comfortable temperature in winter via hot water underfloor heating powered by an electric air to water heat pump.
